Wits issues 9-point plan for 'normality'

Wits University has put forward a nine-point plan to resolve the ongoing protests by students‚ in the hope that the university returns to normal by Tuesday. The Wits senior executive team on Monday released a statement saying it would commit to nine courses of action to get the academic programme back on track:- No increases in fees for 2016‚ neither academic‚ residence or other fees;- The upfront fee payment would be addressed; - Exam timetables would be adjusted to enable students to make up for time lost;- A commission would be appointed to examine the issue of outsourcing‚ which the university said it “recognized as an exploitative practice”; - Wits would make attempts to find financial resources to support the children of all workers employed in currently outsourced services if they are accepted for academic study at the university; - No disciplinary action would be taken against students involved in the recent protests; - Wits would draw up a workers’ charter; - Wits committed itself to addressing all outstanding issues raised by the students; and - A general Assembly would be called if students agreed to all these steps...
