Investigations continue after 42-year-old Briton Daniel Mardell was stabbed to death at his Green Point home in Cape Town during what appears to be a house robbery.

At the time of the incident a woman was seen on the luxury home’s balcony screaming for help.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said Mardell was stabbed to death at 00:50 on Thursday morning at his multi-storey home on High Level Road.

It was not immediately clear how the killer gained access.

Traut said the suspect fled and Mardell's partner escaped unharmed.

No arrests have been made.

A forensic police team arrived at the scene later on Thursday morning to take fingerprints and the investigation continues.

Mardell, originally from London, appeared to have been an avid traveller and cyclist. It is not clear what line of work he pursued in Cape Town.

High Level Road is considered a luxury real estate stretch with sweeping views of the Atlantic ocean and the Cape Town Stadium.
