Security guards nab two robbery suspects

The quick reaction of a security guard at an education institution in Parklands led to the arrest of two robbery suspects on Thursday morning. Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut said the guard “was busy with his routine patrols when he noticed a victim being robbed by a suspect whilst she was waiting at the bus stop in Wood Drive”.His intervention‚ Traut said‚ “led the suspect to flee to his getaway vehicle with the victim’s handbag and he and his accomplice drove off”.“The security guard fired one shot with his company firearm at the tyre of the vehicle‚ disabling it.”The suspect and an accomplice in the vehicle then fled on foot‚ and a second security officer “joined in the pursuit and shortly afterwards both suspects‚ were arrested”.The suspects – “two foreign nationals” - were handed over to Table View police‚ who will hold them until they appear in court on Monday.“The arrest of the suspects is indicative of communities working together in creating safer environments and getting rid of criminals‚” Traut said...
