Top South African actress' baby son drowns at house pool

Top actress Florence Masebe is mourning the death of her 18 month toddler Makona after he drowned at a house in Bramley, Johannesburg over the weekend.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela told The Sowetan that the child was declared dead at the scene.

"Police and emergency services were called to the house after the child drowned," said Maphakela.

Police could not confirm if Masebe was present when her son drowned. She was celebrating her 43rd birthday when the tragedy happened.

Masebe's family would not be releasing a statement, actress Rami Chuene, a close friend of Masebe confirmed.

Known for her roles in South Africa's best soapies, Masebe has acted in Generations, Muvhango, 7de Laan, Soul City.

She also played the lead role of the first Venda film, Elelwani.
