“They are plotting to kill me and my staff,” chairwoman of a commission investigating churches told religious leaders in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities, told Sowetan at a meeting that, since the investigation into churches was launched, she fears for her life.
Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said that about four church leaders, including Pastor Zondo and Sfiso Ncwane’s pastor Francis Anosike, all brought armed guards to the hearings.
“If any of our staff is murdered downstairs here or outside, you must know that people in this room are responsible,” Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said referring to religious leaders in front of her.
“People come in here with armed bodyguards and ask ‘where is Thoko? I cannot hide. I have to come out and say I am Thoko.
“I feel that my life is in danger. If next week you learn that I have been shot at, you must know that it is the religious sector. I didn’t know the religious sector was this unsafe."
