A Roodepoort resident has warned religious groups and fishermen of a potential health hazard at Skinner Dam.

Freddie Pieterse told Roodepoort Record on Monday the potential health hazard is posed by sewage, which is gushing into the dam at alarming volumes.

It is unclear as to when did the sewage start flowing into the dam, however, the critical nature of the problem, according to Pieterse, is evident in the fact that dead can be seen already floating on the water.

Even more concerning for Pieterse is that the dam is frequented not only by fishermen but also religious groups who baptise their members.

The newspaper contacted Joburg Water for comment but no response was forthcoming by the time this article was published.
