The channel stands by its decision to air the 'Our Perfect Wedding episode which caused outrage for 'romanticising rape culture.'

"Mzansi Magic note and acknowledge the concerns from our viewers regarding the OPW episode aired on 29November. The premise of the show is to celebrate the love and the journey that the couples take leading up to their wedding day," read the statement.

The channel defended airing an episode which chronicled the story about a man who met his wife when she was 14 and he 28-years-old. Fanie Mkhwanazi recalled how he had met his bride, Bavelile while she was at school. He spoke of how as a taxi driver he would bed teenage girls and that Bavelile had to fight off other girls for his affection.

About the episode, Mzansi Magic said it reflected society.

"In the case of this episode, the couple’s past brought up uncomfortable social issues which the family and community, who were initially against the relationship, found a way to resolve."

"At Mzansi Magic, we are committed to telling stories that impact our viewers and build our communities whilst challenging society to engage in meaningful conversations but we do not condone any unlawful behaviour," the statement concluded.
