AbaThembu king treated like any other prisoner
Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo‚ the abaThembu king who was jailed last week‚ is being treated like any other prisoner in the East London prison he has been moved to.
Manelisi Wolela on Sunday confirmed that Dalindyebo had been transferred from Mthatha’s Wellington prison.
“He is incarcerated in East London. And yes‚ he’s in a single cell‚” said Wolela.
Sources within the prison said on Sunday that the disgraced king had arrived at the maximum security facility in the afternoon of December 31.
“He arrived in a prison vehicle like any other convicted criminal‚” said one source.
“All I can say is that other inmates here respect him and he’s celebrated as he’s a humorous person.
“He is in a single cell; an area where hardened criminals are.”
The source further said among the criminals incarcerated in single cells not far from Dalindyebo’s cell was contract killer Isaac Phiri.
“There’s nothing special about single cells because what they have there other prisoners have too. We share everything.”
Visitors for those in jail for less than six months may only speak to the convicts through a glass pane.
“The prisoners are allowed no other contact with anyone from outside.”
On Sunday‚ a Dispatch team visited the East London prison and spotted Dalindyebo’s state-issued white Jeep Cherokee parked outside the main gate.
The Dispatch learned that his wife‚ Nokwanda‚ and family members had visited the king on Sunday before driving back to Mthatha to attend family meetings to determine who would fill his role. – TMG Digital/Daily Dispatch
