Former Miss South Africa and Top Billing presenter Jo-Ann Strauss has met the wrath of Twitter users after responding to Penny Sparrow's racist Facebook post making headlines in the news today.

Strauss's tweet read: "It's not what you call me, but what I answer to that counts." an African Proverb #PennySparrow.

Many Twitter users responded negatively to her tweet, causing the phrase  “African Proverb” to trend on Twitter.

I have never and will never condone racism or stupidity. Honestly disgusted by your comments. I stand by my previous tweet.
