Suspend drunk-driving diplomat‚ demands DA

The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday called for the immediate suspension of a South African envoy who‚ “while driving drunk”‚ crashed his diplomatic vehicle trying to evade Norwegian police. “This is a gross act of diplomatic recklessness‚ and criminal conduct on the part of South African diplomats must be strongly condemned‚” the party’s Stevens Mokgalapa said.Eyewitness News reported that Norwegian authorities want the South African’s diplomatic immunity revoked so he can face prosecution‚ and said the accident was a head-on collision in Oslo during the early hours of Sunday morning.Mokgalapa said he would write to International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane “to request that she immediately suspend this diplomat and begin a disciplinary process against him”.“It is also alleged that the diplomat has a previous drunk driving allegation against him‚ and if ambassador (Queen Anne) Zondo knew about this history and failed to prevent this latest incident‚ the ambassador too must be immediately suspended‚” Mokgalapa said...
