15 Mandela Rhodes scholars to study at UCT in 2016

The University of Cape Town says 15 students from around Africa are enrolling on its campus this year as beneficiaries of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation. Each year the Mandela Rhodes Foundation selects 50 candidates. “This year UCT has the lion’s share with 15 scholars enrolling for postgraduate studies‚” the university said in a statement.Its South African scholars and their studies are: Colin Besaans (South Africa)‚ Honours Economics Kerstin Hall (South Africa)‚ MA Creative Writing Qaphela Mashalaba (South Africa)‚ MPhil Financial Mathematics Lethabo Motswaledi (South Africa)‚ MSc Engineering Geomatics Ofentse Noko (South Africa)‚ MSc Biomedical Engineering Julia Standish-White (South Africa)‚ BSocSci Hons PsychologyThe scholars from other African countries are: Melody Asukile (Zambia)‚ MMed Neurology Zenzo Chakara (Zimbabwe)‚ MSc Audiology Natalia Dambe (Malawi)‚ BSc Hons Geographical Information Systems Mussawir Anjam Hassan (Tanzania)‚ MPhil International Law Mary Jiyani (Malawi)‚ LLM Moretlo Moleli (Lesotho)‚ Honours International Relations MinaYousseifMina Yousseif (Egypt)‚ Honours Social Development Loise Ndegwa (Kenya)‚ BA Hons International Relations Henry Owen (Uganda)‚ LLM Commercial LawThe 50 new Mandela Rhodes Scholars were selected at the final interviews in Johannesburg and Cape Town in November last year‚ bringing to 325 the total number of scholarships awarded since the programme was established in 2004.The Mandela Rhodes Scholars pursue postgraduate studies and participate in customised leadership development programmes.
