An official of the Oudtshoorn municipality in the Western Cape accused of hate speech against whites on his Facebook page has got away with a written warning after an internal investigation.

Vuyisa (Forplay) Bhefile Ka Hlazo posted a message on his Facebook in November 2015 stating: “You know I can’t wait for the day the majority in this country would say ‘we have tolerated enough your white s… racist tendencies…’.”

He also stated that would cut out the tongues of white people using a machete and that he would enjoy hearing them beg for forgiveness and watch them cross the borders with their belongings.

A statement issued by the Oudtshoorn Municipality said that a disciplinary hearing had been conducted and that Forplay had been issued with a written warning.

“He was warned about the seriousness of the matter and that any similar response will lead to stringent disciplinary outcomes such as dismissal‚” it stated.

It added that Forplay had shown remorse and apologised about the Facebook post.

He had also been “referred to undergo a diversity management counselling and to abide by the Code of Conduct in future”‚ it said.

The civil rights organisation AfriForum said on Wednesday it was “utterly disgruntled” with the outcome of the disciplinary hearing.

“It is quite clear that he (Forplay) is being protected by his cadres in the municipality. This was not only an extremely racist remark against whites‚ but also hate speech‚” said AfriForum’s provincial coordinator for the Western Province‚ Thomas van Dalen.

“Seen in the light of the chain of events the last couple of weeks during which various racist remarks were condemned quite vigorously and senior officials were summarily dismissed because they only hinted that people of another colour do not have the ability to occupy certain posts‚ it places a huge question mark over the ridiculous punishment inflicted on Forplay‚” he added.
