The situation is tense as at least 300 people have surrounded a police vehicle in Kempton Park.
EWN reports that the protesters say that the angry residents are demanding justice for the death of their 'brother' - which they claim came at the hands of the police.
A spokesman for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate Robbie Raburabu described the situation as rowdy and tense.
He said it was understood that a Nigerian national arrested by police for possession drugs had swallowed the drugs and died.
“However the group of Nigerians are alleging that a police officer suffocated the deceased‚ although that is not what the police are saying. But that will form part of our investigation‚” Raburaba said.
eNCA's Lirandzu Themba has been tweeting from the scene.
