Big Ben's little brother in Cape Town is ticking again. The city hall clock‚ which is exactly half the size of the Great Bell at the Palace of Westminster in London‚ was installed in 1915.Mayoral committee member for tourism‚ events and economic development councillor Garreth Bloor said the clock strikes the hours and chimes the Westminster Quarters. But‚ in November 2013‚ the clock stopped working and so started months of repair work.“A few contractors were called in to assess the problems‚ and it was decided that we needed to find a more specialised subcontractor who has the experience and a better understanding of historical clock mechanisms‚” said Bloor.“Restoration and repairs have been completed on the City Hall clock and it is once again in full working order.”According to the city‚ it originally consisted of 37 bells which was rung for the first time in April 1925 when the Prince of Wales visited. – TMG Digital/Sunday Times..
