Helicopters have been dispatched to stop a fire raging in the reeds between the N2 and Baden Powell Drive from spreading to the Cape Town Film Studios, the City of Cape Town Fire Services has confirmed.

This after the blaze broke out in the waterlogged area in Faure at 11:30, spokesperson Theo Layne said on Saturday.

"The fire can't be extinguished with the helicopters alone, but [we are able] to contain the perimeter," he said.

Firefighters are monitoring the situation as the burning area is currently inaccessible.

"The fire is a relative distance from the studios and the team will try to prevent it burning in that direction," Layne said.

The N2 was earlier closed due to bad visibility but has since been reopened.
