In an incident that beggars belief, the body of a Durban businessman sat upright in his car in the VIP parking section of the Suncoast Casino for up to eight hours, unnoticed in the scorching heat, after apparently taking his own life on Tuesday.

It is understood that security personal at the casino eventually noticed the body and called emergency services to the scene.

The man, who has not yet been named, was found slumped in his seat with a handgun in his lap and a gunshot wound to the head.

He was declared dead by Life Response 24/7 paramedics.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said that the body of the 54-year-old man would undergo a pathological examination.

"An inquest docket was opened at Durban Central [police station] for investigation. No foul play is suspected at this age," he said.
