The government acknowledges that it could do more to improve the ease of doing business in South Africa‚ Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says. But significant progress had been made in this regard‚ he told a delegation from the Federation of Economic Organisations of Japan – referred to as Keidanren – at a breakfast meeting in Cape Town on Tuesday morning. “It now takes just a few days – and sometimes a few hours – to register a new business‚” Ramaphosa said. “But there are many other bureaucratic processes that we are working to simplify and accelerate‚” he added. He said that in his State of the Nation Address last week‚ President Jacob Zuma had emphasised the importance of improving the conditions for investment in the economy. “Our government is thus working speedily to create the correct investment support infrastructure. “We are fast-tracking the implementation of the Invest SA initiative‚ which is a one-stop investment shop to assist investors in meeting all the necessary legislative and regulatory requirements‚” Ramaphosa stated. This would reduce the cost and complexity of investing in South Africa and would also ensure government departments and agencies were more efficient and more responsive‚ he said. “This is one of the ways in which South Africans are working together to grow the economy and create jobs.”..
