Suspended head of the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal Johan Booysen will appear in the Durban High Court on Friday.

This was confirmed in a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Wednesday which “advised” that its national head‚ advocate Shaun Abrahams‚ had authorised “racketeering charges in the Cato Manor matter”.

“…Abrahams authorised the prosecution of Johan Booysen and 27 members of the Cato Manor Organised Crime Unit on Racketeering charges in terms of section 2 (4) of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act‚ 121 of 1998”‚ the statement said.

“The...decision has been communicated to the accused’s legal representatives.”

Booysen’s suspension was‚ in November last year‚ overturned in same court he will appear in on Friday.

At the time‚ Judge Anton van Zyl ruled “there is not even prima facie evidence that such fraud had been committed or‚ if it had‚ that the applicant is implicated therein”.
