The Johannesburg Roads Agency is to roll out the second phase of the M1 rehabilitation of three bridges. The second phase – which involves the double-decker bridge section of the M1 between Carr and Anderson streets in the city centre - will impact road users from later this month.Councillor Christine Walters‚ member of the mayoral committee for transport‚ said while the second phase will inconvenience motorists‚ the rehabilitation was important due to dangerous flooding on the double-decker section of the M1."This section of the freeway is a key arterial route through the heart of Johannesburg and daily carries approximately 80000 private cars‚ commercial traffic and public transport...all vital to the growth of southern-most important economic hub‚" said Walters.Certain lanes on the M1 double-decker section will be closed until July 6‚ 2017 on weekdays between 9.30am and 2.30pm.The construction will be halted during the morning and afternoon peak hours‚ but work will be steeped up in the evenings and over weekends. – TMG Digital/TMG Local Government..
