Union dispute leaves Tshwane bus commuters stranded
Disruptions to bus services in Tshwane continued on Monday following a week long dispute between two unions. The City of Tshwane’s mayoral spokesperson‚ Blessing Manale‚ said the “illegal industrial actions by bus drivers and other employees” had affected both Tshwane Bus Service and A re yeng Rapid Bus Service commuters.Manale said the “action is a result of a recognition dispute between the bus drivers affiliated to the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union and the SA Municipal Workers’ Union‚ who embarked on an unprotected strike since last week Monday”.“We regret that the strike action has resulted in total disruption of the bus services‚ and urge commuters to consider alternative transport means‚ as we continue to engage with the workers’ representatives‚ and enforce our interdicts‚” said Manale.“We will proceed with the appropriate legal action to ensure that workers wishing to return to work are not intimidated and that our commuters are safe and continue to benefit from a reliable municipal bus service.”..
