Grandmother, six kids aged between 3 and 12 killed in suspected arson attack

Seven members of a family of 10 died in a fire after a shack they were sleeping in was set alight at Senthumole Section, Koster, in North West province on Tuesday.

The suspected arson attack is believed to have happened in the early hours of the morning and claimed the lives of a 75-year old grandmother and six children aged between 3 and 12.

According to police reports only three of the shack's occupants survived. An investigation is currently under way.

North West acting provincial head of communication, Brian Setswambung, said Premier Supra Mahumapelo had condemned the attack.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of those who have been killed, and as we extend our earnest condolences. We wish them strength to bear this great pain," Mahumpelo said.

Mahumpelo also called on community members to remain calm and allow the police to continue with their investigation.
