A former acting cluster commander for the Mount Fletcher Cluster stations and the station commander for Mount Fletcher police station in the Eastern Cape has been found guilty of fraud. Colonel Majoro Petros Moraba was sentenced on Friday to 12 months’ imprisonment or a R10‚000 fine in the Mount Fletcher Regional court.Cops get 15 years for dragging murder of Mido MaciaIn 2012 Moraba approached Mr Bilal Khan‚ a businessman in Mount Fletcher‚ to build him 10 small residential flats next to the Mount Fletcher police station. He said he planned to rent these out to people who sought accommodation.In exchange for building him these flats‚ Moraba said that he would give Mr Khan a portion of the land as payment. The colonel had assured Mr Khan that the land next to the Mount Fletcher Police station belonged to him‚ whereas it legally belonged to Elundini Municipality. Mr Khan‚ not knowing that the land did not belong to the former station commander‚ agreed to the deal.Moraba subsequently delivered two land transfer documents to Mr Khan. One dealt with transferring part of the land from Elundini Municipality to Moraba while the other transferred another portion of the land from the municipality to Mr Khan. Both documents contained a fraudulent signature from the municipal manager.How cop spies looted slush fundWhen Mr Khan received these documents he became suspicious as the approval of these transfers had been rather unusually swift. Consequently‚ he sought counsel from his legal advisor who at the time happened to be Elundini Municipality’s legal advisor. The attorney then contacted the municipal manager who bore no knowledge of these two transactions.The matter was then referred to the Hawks for investigation on July 16‚ 2013. Moraba decided to resign from the South African Police Service (SAPS) before appearing for the first time in an internal disciplinary proceeding which had been instituted against him by the SAPS.'SAPS full of hardened criminals'He at first appeared before the Mount Fletcher District court.
