Accidents mar start of holiday season

A man with severe head injuries and lacerations to his face was found next to a road in Turffontein‚ Johannesburg‚ by a passerby in the early hours of Thursday morning.Six people were injured on Thursday afternoon when a taxi rolled on the R500‚ 8km outside of Fochville‚ Gauteng.Paramedics arrived on the scene to find a wrecked taxi on the side of the road‚ ER24 said. The passengers were sitting next to the vehicle.It is understood that the driver lost control of the vehicle‚ causing it to roll multiple times.Six of the nine occupants were injured. The cause of his injuries is not yet known.In another accident‚ a man died and three others were injured when two vehicles collided in Bloemfontein on Thursday night.Paramedics and other services found a car and a bakkie had crashed at the intersection of the N1 Western Bypass and Church Street‚ ER24 said in a statement on Thursday.The driver of the car died at the scene. A man and a woman were trapped in the bakkie and were extricated by the fire and rescue unit. Their injuries were moderate.And in KwaZulu-Natal at least two people were injured in a crash on the Uvongo bridge on Thursday morning‚ just as MEC of Transport Thembinkosi Willies Mchunu launched the Easter road safety campaign.Emergency services were called to the accident which involved five vehicles.
