North-West University's Mahikeng campus reopened on Tuesday morning without any disruptions. Students were seen entering the entrance and going to their classes - there was no noticeable heavy security presence and everything looked normal.This was after the campus closed more than a month ago after the administration and science buildings were razed by students protesting against the inauguration of a new students representative council and the disbanding of the previous one. Welcoming the students back‚ the university's vice-chancellor‚ Professor Dan Kgwadi‚ said he was happy the students had heeded the call to not cause disruptions.“Every student who came today went straight to class. We do not have time to waste. There was no room for further disturbance‚ we did not want to create a platform for other elements‚ there is no time for that‚” he said.Kgwadi said even that‚ although it was too early to confirm the student turn-out‚ he was determined to make sure that there was a recovery plan in place to catch up for the lost 23 days.He said the university was going to utilise recess periods‚ weekends and all public holidays from the remainder of the year to make up for lost time.“We are confident that with that plan we will produce quality standards. Otherwise‚ we will be having a microwaved degree to produce‚ we can’t really guarantee any quality on a microwaved degree.
