Three male candidates will face off on Wednesday for the job of deputy judge president at the KwaZulu-Natal High Court. Three male candidates will face off on Wednesday for the job of deputy judge president at the KwaZulu-Natal High Court. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC)‚ meeting in Cape Town‚ will interview Durban High Court judges Shyam Gyanda and Jerome Mnguni‚ and Pietermaritzburg High Court Judge Mjabuliseni Madondo after failing to recommend a suitable candidate last year. The commission will also interview four candidates - two men and two women - for two vacancies on the KwaZulu-Natal bench. Gyanda and Madondo faced the commission last year‚ when Gyanda was involved in a heated race debate with commissioner and Economic Freedom Front Leader Julius Malema. The debate began when Malema said Indians dominated "every sphere of life"‚ particularly economic and judicial‚ in KwaZulu-Natal.Vacancies at the KZN court are often controversial due to the history of the leadership at the court. In 2013‚ former Judge President Chiman Patel was charged with crimen injuria after an African clerk accused him of calling her names‚ and the new judge president‚ Achmat Jappie‚ had to apologise for jokingly saying during his interview for the post that he had "charmed" women colleagues out of competing with him.The JSC commenced interviewing 34 candidates for various vacancies at higher courts around the country on Monday. - TMG Digital/Sunday Times*Watch a live stream of proceedings at http://www.judgesmatter.co.za/For the full schedule click here...
