Top Johannesburg hospitals coping despite water outage

Two private hospitals on the West Rand where a 30-hour water outage kicked in on Tuesday morning‚ say their patient care is unaffected. Staff at the bustling 265-bed Netcare Olivedale Clinic said they were coping due to the contingency plans they have in place. The hospital has on-site reservoir water tankers. The City of Johannesburg was also due to truck in more water to replenish the tankers as the day progressed.Staff at the Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital said they were not affected by the water cut at the time Times Media visited the hospital.The City is doing maintenance on its water pipes at a Honeydew reservoir.Spokesperson Hilgard Matthews said: “On 12 April‚ from 9am‚ we will be disrupting water services until 3pm on 13 April. The reason for the water interruption is the fact that Rand Water‚ which supplies water to Johannesburg Water‚ is having to do [maintenance] at the Honeydew reservoir. This means that a new pipe they [fitted] needs to be brought into our reservoir.”Affected suburbs include Honeydew‚ the Zandspruit Informal settlement‚ Honeydew West‚ parts of Northriding‚ Northgate‚ Northriding‚ Bloubosrand‚ Kya Sand‚ Mogale City‚ Nooitgedacht‚ Cosmo City‚ Lanseria‚ Itsoseng informal settlement‚ Malibongwe Ridge‚ Malatjie Informal settlement‚ Olivedale Clinic‚ Cosmo City Industrial Park‚ Noordhang‚ Jackal Creek‚ Northlands Business and Décor Park.Water tanks are at the following locations‚ according to the City: - Honeydew West Road and Boundary Road - Honeydew Police Station - Jackal Creek Estate - The Dome at Northgate - Corner of Aureole Road and Valley Road - Northlands Décor Park - Uitval Road and Agnes Road - Zandspruit Informal Settlement - Itsoseng Informal Settlement - Malatjie Informal Settlement..
