Violent service delivery protest erupts in Emfuleni: DA

The community of Boiketlong in the Emfuleni municipality in the Vaal Triangle has once again barricaded the streets of Waterdal and Moeshoehoe due to their grave unhappiness with the ANC’s service delivery record in the community‚ according to the Democratic Alliance. Kingsol Chabalala‚ the DA’s constituency head for Emfuleni North‚ said members of the community were revolting against a lack of housing‚ poor road conditions and communal taps as the only source of clean drinking water.Three of 'Boiketlong Four' get bailSome areas of Boiketlong had no electricity supply‚ he added.“In 2014 a member of the community was shot and killed during a service delivery protest and today’s violence has left many residents injured.“I urge Gauteng Cooperative Governance MEC‚ Paul Mashatile‚ to intervene and address the residents of Boiketlong‚” Chabalala said.The Mayor of Emfuleni must also engage with residents to find amicable solutions – not offer more empty promises of a better life‚ he said‚ adding that Boiketlong had long been forgotten by the ANC administration in Emfuleni...
