Comair strikers to take salary grievance to CCMA
Striking Comair employees will on Tuesday approach the Commission for Conciliation‚ Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) following failed negotiations with the company over salary increases. Members of trade union Uasa downed tools on Wednesday last week demanding a 35% increase over a three-year period‚ comprising a Consumer Price Index increase plus extra to allow for the extraordinary increase in the cost of living as well as interest rate hikes.Workers on strike include Comair customer service agents‚ ticket sales agents‚ ramp controllers‚ airport control management and special service agents.These employees work for British Airways and Kulula.Uasa chairperson Enough Matsimbi said on Monday that the union would go to CCMA to try and resolve the issues they had with Comair.“On Friday‚ we had a meeting with the company. They gave us a new offer of 23%. We rejected this offer because it is the same as their initial 22‚5% offer‚ which we rejected. They are bringing 0.5% to the table. We will be going to CCMA to see if we can resolve the matter.”Matsimbi said they were still picketing outside Comair’s head offices in Kempton Park...
