Stock theft unit tracks down most of missing goat herd

Most of a missing herd of stolen goats were reunited with their owner on Thursday after some tenacious detective work by the police stock theft unit in Kokstad in Kwazulu-Natal. On Sunday morning‚ the owner noticed that 33 goats‚ worth nearly R50‚000‚ had gone missing from their kraal in Umzimkhulu on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said the woman opened a case of theft and the Kokstad Stock Theft unit was assigned to trace the whereabouts of the missing herd."They received information about the stolen goats. They went to the Mandeni area where they found 22 goats. The goats were positively identified by the owner‚" said Zwane.Three men‚ between the ages of 18 and 60‚ were arrested and are expected to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of possession of stolen goats and stock theft.Police are still searching for the remainder of the herd.- TMG Digital/Sunday Times..
