Springbok legend and television presenter Naas Botha has been provisionally sequestrated by the high court in Pretoria over money owing on a home loan.

Botha has been involved in a six-year financial battle with Nedbank over an amount of R1.1 million due on a mortgage bond for a property in Mooikloof‚ east of the city‚ The Star reported on Friday.

His wife Karen‚ a former Springbok long jumper who has had a long battle with Crohn’s disease‚ had obtained the bond in January 2006 to buy the property‚ and Botha signed surety for it.

The newspaper said the property was subsequently sold for an amount which was not enough to repay the full loan amount. The couple then fell behind on payments.

Botha has until June 15‚ to oppose the application and give reasons as to why he should not be finally sequestrated.
