Heavy rains continue to lash KZN

Kwazulu-Natal disaster management teams were out in full force on Sunday morning as heavy rain continued to lash the province.About 350 people living in the Isipingo transit camp‚ south of Durban‚ were scrambling to find shelter after their homes were flooded when a river burst its bank.The group staged a protest early on Sunday morning."We are desperate. We don’t know what to do. There are children with us. We have nowhere to go‚" resident Slindile Ntombela said.KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) departmental spokesman Lennox Mabaso said a disaster management team was at the camp."We are aware of the situation. Our teams are out in different areas as the heavy rains continue to pound the province. We want to ascertain the facts before we provide a full assessment of the impact of the weather‚" he said.Provincial police spokesman Thulani Zwane said the search for one person and a four-year-old child believed to have been swept away when their family tried to cross the Crossmore river near Chatsworth was called off on Sunday morning."The heavy rain and overflowing river are making it difficult for the search operation to continue‚" he said.He said the bodies of two members of the family who were swept away had been recovered.- TMG Digital/The Times..
