The University of the Witwatersrand is the latest tertiary institution in South Africa to announce it will introduce gender neutral toilets on campus. “So proud of my university! #WITS will soon have gender-neutral restrooms‚” Olivia Nope ‏@TheodeJager tweeted.Pretty &cool ‏@tlhago agreed‚ saying: “@WitsUniversity to introduce gender neutral restrooms across campus #WIN @WitsSRC”.The University of Cape Town and Rhodes University in Grahamstown both announced in 2014 that they had rubber-stamped pee-for-all toilets.UCT said then the move was aimed at students who are transgender or who don’t fit a specific gender identity.Jessica Breakey‚ the transformation representative on the UCT SRC‚ told The Times: “There is a lot of focus on transformation at UCT‚ with our admission policy‚ but we wanted to do something tangible. Transformation is almost always about race here and seldom about gender or sexuality. We approached the university’s properties and services division and there was really no hesitation. I was expecting it to be much harder than it was.”..
