One killed‚ 14 injured in Newlands collision

One person was killed and 14 other people injured in a collision between a mini-bus taxi and a VW Polo in Newlands west of Johannesburg on Saturday morning‚ paramedics said. “Shortly after 8am this morning‚ paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the corners of Main and Plantation Roads in Newlands where they found a taxi wedged into the side of the Polo. One person was still trapped in the Polo and had to be freed by the local fire department. He was in a critical condition‚” ER24 emergency medical service said.“All the other occupants‚ including the deceased‚ were found on the side of the road. It is understood that bystanders removed all the occupants and placed them on the side of the road prior to emergency workers’ arrival. It is believed that the deceased was removed from the Polo.“Four people were critically injured in the Polo. They sustained multiple injuries and had to be stabilised on the scene before being rushed off to Chris Hani Baragwanath‚ Helen Joseph and Milpark Hospitals‚ respectively‚” ER24 said.It said 10 others‚ believed to be from the taxi and whose injuries were minor to moderate‚ were treated on the scene and later transported to nearby hospitals...
