Free State celebrates local lad winning Mr Teen World

An official party is being planned for 15-year-old Mpho Botha‚ for being crowned Mr Teen World. South Africa had an unprecedented five title win at the contest‚ held this year in Turkey.“Mpho Botha’s success is worth celebrating‚ especially at a time when we are commemorating Africa Month. This dynamic young person is an example to many of his peers that hard work and perseverance also pays. He has made both the Free State and South Africa proud‚” Free State MEC for Sport‚ Arts‚ Culture and Recreation Mrs Mathabo Leeto said on Wednesday. Mpho Botha is a Grade 11 learner from Welkom Gymnasium High School.Earlier this year‚ Mpho entered the Mr Teen SA beauty contest out of his own initiative and managed to successfully win the contest‚ the provincial government statement said. He subsequently had to represent South Africa in Bodrum‚ Turkey for the Mr. Teen World beauty contest.The MEC is hosting a welcoming dinner in Welkom for Mpho on Friday.The teen arrived back in South Africa a day ago. Before his win‚ Mpho shared photos from the contest on his Facebook page and posted a message back home‚ saying: "It has been a great honour to represent the beautiful rainbow nation of South Africa at Mr Teen World here in Bodrum‚ Turkey. Thanks to the MEC of Sports and Entertainment and the Municipality of Letjweleputswa. I hope to make you all proud. ‪#‎MrJnrTeenSA".South Africans also won four other titles at the contest:20-year-old Andrea Abrahams‚ the current Miss Jnr South Africa Mpumalanga winner‚ won Miss 7 Continents 2016. According to organisers‚ Andrea is the first girl from the African Continent to have won this event.11-year-old Chante Green from Mossel Bay won Little Miss Globe 2016. She is the reigning Miss Mini Teen South Africa Western Cape winner.9-year-old Deante Swart from Greytown won Little Miss World 2016 and is also the reigning Petite Miss World South Africa winner.7-year-old Zenande Mncwabe from Richards Bay won Little Miss Universe 2016. Zenande is the current Tiny Miss World South Africa winner as well and received her invitation to attend this pageant as the South African winner.“It was a like a royal flush‚ I was over the moon‚” said pageant organiser Carolyn Baldwin Botha (no relation)‚ who took the contestants to Turkey.“This is the first time we’ve ever won every age group.”She said she had been helping contestants enter the contest for five years‚ and credited 2016’s success to being extra-selective in choosing which candidate would represent South Africa and by ensuring they entered multiple contests for practice ahead of the big day.Previous SA winners at the pageant include Little Miss World in 2012‚ Little Miss Universe in 2014 and Miss Teen World last year‚ Katlego Ncala – who started on May 1 this year as a presenter on Yo!
