One killed‚ 15 injured in accident involving two taxis and car

One man was killed and 15 other people were injured on Sunday afternoon when two taxis and a light motor vehicle collided on the R55 in Waterfall‚ Johannesburg‚ paramedics said.ER24 paramedics‚ along with other services‚ arrived on the scene to find all three vehicles on the side of the road.“One of the taxis and the light motor vehicle were smashed together‚ leaving debris all across the scene‚” ER24 emergency medical service said.“On assessment‚ paramedics discovered the body of the driver of the light motor vehicle‚ a man in his 30s‚ lying trapped inside his vehicle.“Unfortunately‚ the man had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.“Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to later free the deceased from the vehicle‚” ER24 said.“On further inspection‚ paramedics discovered 15 other patients on the scene‚ several of them in a critical condition‚ including both taxi drivers‚” it added.Paramedics set up a triage area and began treating all the injured‚ as well as providing the critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions‚ it said.Two of the critically injured patients were airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.Paramedics treated the other injured and then transported them to various hospitals in the area for urgent treatment.“Traffic in the area was heavily affected due to the collision. The road was closed for some time by local authorities.“The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations‚” ER24 said...
