Murder suspect on the run after killing cop in Durban

A policeman was shot and killed while on duty by a wanted murder suspect in Umlazi‚ Durban. Warrant Officer Jabulani Didi‚ 54‚ and his colleague were patrolling the township when they received a report of a murder at U section‚ on Monday evening.KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said that when the officers arrived on the scene‚ they were told that a suspect had allegedly killed a security guard‚ Zimele Nzama‚ 38.The officers pursued the suspect who in turn opened fire on the police near Isipingo Primary school.Warrant Officer Didi was shot in the head and died instantly.The suspect fled and is still at large.Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Major General Bhekinkosi Langa condemned the killing.“I want to extend my condolences to the family‚ friends and colleagues of Warrant Didi who was shot and killed yesterday while executing his duties‚" he said"His wife is also a member of the SAPS and we will make sure that the family gets the necessary support from the SAPS."The Hawks have launched an investigation and we are confident that they will find the person responsible for the murder of our police officer as well as the security guard‚” he said.Two cases of murder were opened at Umlazi SAPS for further investigation.Police are appealing to the community for any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect...
