Jeb Corliss tells of how his infamous brush with death on Cape Town landmark actually "saved my life". “I made a massive mistake‚ my mistake‚ and my biggest mistake for sure‚ I’d lost fear.” US BASE (building‚ antenna‚ span and Earth) jumper Jeb Corliss does not mince his words in a new short documentary that shows never-before-seen footage of his spectacular‚ and life-threatening‚ crash on Table Mountain in 2012.Corliss‚ now 40‚ was injured while attempting an illegal BASE jump off Table Mountain‚ but clipped a rock and tumbled 60m down into Contour Path. The footage shows the crash from Corliss’ perspective‚ as he collided with the mountain‚ and also his long recovery. BASE jumpers free-fall until‚ just before landing‚ they open their parachutes.“I am actually pretty happy this happened‚ I think in the long run it saved my life‚ I feel very fortunate that I was able to make so many mistakes‚ and then have such a catastrophic accident and not die and get an opportunity to live again‚” he says in the video “Jeb Corliss the Crash and the Recovery”.The footage was compiled by GoPro and uploaded to YouTube on Monday.Corliss broke both of his ankles‚ three toes and his left fibula. He also suffered gashes that required skin grafts.Corliss was jumping with fellow American adventurer Joby Ogwyn‚ who became the youngest person to climb Mount Everest at the age of 24.A Table Mountain National Park spokesperson said at the time that Corliss did not have permission to do the jump. Although the park did not lay charges‚ he was fined R1500.Corliss had in the past completed more than 1000 successful BASE jumps around the world‚ including from Paris’ Eiffel Tower‚ San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge‚ Angel Falls in Venezuela‚ and the Petronas Towers in Malaysia. - TMG Digital..
