Tomorrow is the very last day for parents applying for space in public schools in Gauteng.

The Gauteng Department of Education on Tuesday issued a reminder to all parents who have not applied yet for placement of their children in 2017.

Parents have until midnight tomorrow to register their children using the online learner application system at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

Parents/guardians who do not have access to the internet are urged to visit their nearest school or district office for assistance.

Those who are still experiencing challenges with the online applications can contact the Call Centre on (011) 355 0000 or the toll free number 0800 000 789.

According to the department‚ since the launch of the online application process in April‚ over 600‚000 applications have been received and processed.

The new online application system experienced serious glitches when it was launched by Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi this year. It crashed and left many parents frustrated by reserving spaces in schools they did not want.

The placement of pupils will commence from 24 June until 25 July 2016.

During this period‚ schools will process learner placement online. Parents will receive an automated SMS indicating offer of placement. Letters will also be sent to parents informing them of successful and unsuccessful applications.

Parents will be given a period of seven days to accept or reject placement offers. If no response is received‚ the applicant will forfeit such an offer and the next parent will be placed in the available space.

Parents who have applied after the closing date‚ will only be considered after all learners who applied before the June 2 deadline have been offered placements.
