People using Gautrain faced missing their flights from ORT International Airport on Wednesday as the service failed to start on schedule.
Commuters on the North-South line below Sandton station also faced setbacks‚ while the “train service between Sandton & Hatfield continues to operate to schedule”.
The service tweeted via @TheGautrain: “1st train from OR Tambo delayed by 1 hour. Train service btwn Sandton & Park temporarily disrupted. Buses used btwn Sandton & Park.1/2”.
It followed this with: “Please note that a Gautrain bus service will operate between Sandton & Park Stations until train service is fully restored.”
No reasons were given for the delays – which angered customers at the busy Rhodesfield station who were turned away from the 5.20am train - although Talk Radio 702’s Aki Anastasiou said the problem seemed to be centred on the Sandton station.
