Women still trail men in municipal management positions

The number of people employed by municipalities - including councillors and mayors - increased from 270 714 in 2014 to 279 109 in 2015‚ Statistics SA reported in Pretoria on Tuesday.According to figures released by Statistician-General Pali Lehohla‚ there are 20 967 people occupying management posts in all municipalities.How you can help find someone to fill Thuli Madonsela's shoesA total of 13 457 of the posts are filled by men while women filled the remaining 7 510 posts.There was‚ however‚ a drop in the number of funded vacant posts – positions that are budgeted for but not filled - from 44 927 in 2014 to 41 443 in 2015‚ including mayoral and councillor positions.The highest number of unfilled posts in technical areas was recorded in environmental protection services (23%)‚ followed by electricity departments (20%)‚ whilst waste water management departments and water reported vacancy rates of 15 of 16% and 12% respectively.The department that reflected the lowest number of vacancies was sport and recreation (9%). ..
