The SA Council of Educators which is responsible for conduct of all teachers in the country has committed to visiting the Prince Tokotoko High School in Nongoma in Kwazulu-Natal where pupils were filmed being spanked by one of the teachers in a video that has gone viral. “I can confirm that on July 18‚ when the schools reopen‚ we are going to visit the school as SACE. We have picked up many issues happening at that school. Therefore‚ we will go there to see what is actually happening‚” SACE told TMG Digital. A video‚ which went viral after being posted on Facebook‚ shows a matric girl holding on to the back of a chair while being hit with a stick on the buttocks. It appears the video‚ which was uploaded by Makhi Zihlangu on June 21‚ was made by one of the pupils in the class. The video starts with one girl being hit twice on the buttocks‚ before walking away in pain. But the teacher grabs her hand and drags her back over to the chair and hits her two more times‚ before making her turn around and hitting her on her hands three times. The teacher then pulls another girl over and hits her six times in quick succession on the buttocks. This happens to another three pupils‚ while some of the pupils in the class can be heard laughing. KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education Mthandeni Dlungwana has already “ordered the suspension” of the teacher who was filmed beating learners at the Prince Tokotoko High School in Nongoma.Corporal punishment is illegal in South Africa...
