Disciplinary action against three SABC staffers postponed

The disciplinary proceedings of three senior journalists who wrote a letter to SABC chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng on Monday expressing their increasing concern over recent developments at the national broadcaster have been postponed until next week.Krivani Pillay‚ executive producer of SAFM current affairs‚ executive producer of Special Assignment Busisiwe Ntuli and senior investigative reporter Jacques Steenkamp have not been suspended as initially reported.Their labour union‚ Solidarity‚ said the three had asked for‚ and were granted a postponement to prepare for their case. However‚ Solidarity chief executive Dirk Hermann said the disciplinary proceedings against three other SABC journalists suspended last week - Thandeka Gqubule‚ Foeta Krige and Suna Venter - continued on Friday.He said the union was also applying for a postponement of those proceedings to allow the three to obtain legal representation. Hermann was giving an update on the situation inside the SABC as about 100 activists and journalists picketed outside the public broadcaster's offices in Auckland Park to protest against the suspensions and demanding the journalists’ reinstatement.A group of journalists and activists‚ including unionist Zwelinzima Vavi‚ went inside the SABC offices to have a meeting with its chief operating officer‚ Hlaudi Motsoeneng‚ about the developments at the public broadcaster.The rest of the picketers marched to the Constitutional Court to hand over a memorandum of their demands.Motsoeneng’s editorial policy decisions have led to the crisis at the SABC...
