Rain Queen’s stature officially restored

More than four decades after being demoted‚ the Rain Queen is set to join the ranks of South Africa’s 10 officially recognised kings on Tuesday in Limpopo.President Jacob Zuma recognised the Rain Queen’s royalty in terms of Section 2A (3) (a) of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act‚ 2003 (Act No. 41 of 2003) in March this year.The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs‚ Des van Rooyen‚ will visit the Modjadji Traditional Authority in Limpopo to officially inform it about the recognition of the Queenship of the Balobedu tribe.“This recognition restores the Modjadji Queenship‚ which was nullified by the apartheid government in 1972‚ by demoting Queen Makoma Modjadji IV to chieftaincy‚” Van Rooyen’s spokesperson‚ Legadima Leso‚ said.Eleven-year-old Masalanabo Modjadji is in line to become the next queen after her mother Makobo Modjadji‚ the last Rain Queen‚ died in 2006.She will be crowned when she comes of age as Queen Modjadji the Seventh. – TMG Digital..
