Snow cuts power to thousands in KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Drakensberg

Eskom maintenance teams are battling against the elements in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and parts of the Drakensberg trying to restore power to nearly 6‚000 people who were left with no electricity after snowstorms on Sunday and Monday. In a statement on Tuesday‚ the power utility said that snowfalls had affected the Nottingham Road‚ Underberg‚ Kokstad and Bergville areas. As a result‚ 18 networks were affected‚ leaving about 19‚000 customers without power. Ongoing poor weather conditions have hampered efforts to get power restored in some places. "Several roads were closed which prevented staff from accessing some of the networks. Eskom staff have been working around the clock to determine the extent of damage and restore the lines back to service‚ in the accessible areas.
