Mandela family member dies

The Royal House of Mandela and the Mvezo Traditional Council are “deeply saddened” by the passing of Nyamelo Bennet Mandela‚ the son of Zwelithambile Napisili Mandela and Nosinala Mandela. Nyamelo served as a tour guide at the Qunu Museum located in the village where former president Nelson Madiba grew up. He was 47.The cause of his death is not known.“We bid farewell to a dear member of the Mandela Family‚” Nkosi ZMD Mandela said in a statement.“His work at the Qunu Museum demonstrated his commitment to keeping alive the legacy of the father of our nation and to preserve for posterity the treasured memory and memorabilia of our global icon. We acknowledge and salute his valuable contribution as it serves as a reminder of the long walk to freedom that we as a nation have undertaken.“Nyamelo’s life and his work remind all of us of our duty to walk in the footsteps of our hero and to work tirelessly to carry forward his legacy and life mission. The thousands of people who passed through the Qunu Museum and who were inspired by the work of the museum are testimony to the importance of preserving this historical site.”The royal family of the kingdom of AbaThembu said in a separate statement: “We would like to send our messages of support to the Mandela Royal House during this difficult time“.“Nyamelo was one of the members of the Mandela Royal House who were promoting the legacy of the late father of the nation‚ Nkosi Dalibhunga Nelson Mandela‚” said Nkosi Daludumo Mtirara‚ spokesperson of the royal family for the kingdom of AbaThembu.“We encourage the members of the royal family to extend their support to Zwelithambile‚ Nosinala‚ immediate family of Nyamelo and the Mandela royal family‚” Mtirara said.Nyamelo Mandela was born on 7 March 1969 and passed away on the 23 July 2016.He will be buried on Saturday 6 August 2016 in Qunu‚ Nkalane location...
