Police nab taxi packed with flat-screen televisions

A taxi driver found with more flat-screen televisions than passenger seats in his Toyota Quantum will appear in court on Wednesday for possession of suspected stolen property and theft in the North West Province. The 31-year-old’s vehicle was flagged as being suspicious by police patrolling the CBD in Ventersdorp on Monday.“It was during the search that the police discovered suspected stolen properties inside the vehicle‚” police spokesman Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said in a statement.Police found 17 flat-screen televisions‚ a laptop‚ two DVD players‚ speakers‚ a microwave oven and two hot plate stoves which‚ it turned out‚ were stolen at a local furniture store. The goods were worth R150‚000.Police are still hunting for three other suspects who fled when the taxi was stopped. The apprehended man will appear in the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court...
