Home robberies up by 19.3% in Western Cape, down in Gauteng

More people are becoming victims at crimes in their homes‚ with robberies at places of residence increasing by 2.7% in South Africa over the last financial year. This was revealed in the latest crime statistics presented by the SA Police Service before a portfolio committee in Parliament on Friday.In the Western Cape‚ house robberies have increased by 19.3%‚ the highest increase by a single province. Gauteng saw a decrease of 3.4% in cases of robbery at a residential premises. However‚ the same province recorded a 2.8% increase in cases of robbery at non-residential premises. In addition‚ a 14.3% increase in car hijackings has been reported nationwide‚ and this crime has seen an increase in eight of the nine provinces in the country. – TMG Digital..
