Controlled bridge collapse causes panic

Motorists on the N2 M41 Mount Edgecombe interchange outside Durban panicked after they heard a loud explosion followed by a bridge collapse on Friday afternoon.The collapse occurred at the construction site of the Sanral R1.07 billion project which aims to enhance Durban's northern transport corridor.Dylan Meyrick‚ of IPSS Medical Rescue‚ said it was a controlled explosion where construction workers took down the old bridge."It was not serious and there were no injuries‚" said Meyrick.Emergency Control SA said the old bridge was being used in the construction of the new bridge‚ hence the confusion of it falling over.According to Sanral 89‚000 vehicles pass through the interchange daily and the new bridge is expected to ease the congestion...
