Lucky escape for 15 children as driver forgets to engage handbrake

Fifteen children were injured on Tuesday afternoon after a bakkie transporting them veered out of control off the R56 in Shepstone Farm near Thornville in KwaZulu-Natal. Fortunately‚ their injuries were classified by paramedics as minor to moderate. ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the children ranged in ages from five to eight years old.Paramedics treated them on the scene before transporting them to Northdale and Edendale Hospital for further treatment.It is understood that the driver of the vehicle did not pull up the handbrake as he climbed out of the vehicle‚ Meiring said."This caused the vehicle to veer uncontrollably down the road and finally come to rest at the bottom of the embankment."Local authorities were on scene for further investigations...
