Madonsela to address ‘hysteria over supposed support for Israel’

Outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela is expected to come to the aid of the ordinary man when she launches several investigation reports on Tuesday afternoon.

Madonsela has invited members of the media to her office in Pretoria for the launch.

Though Madonsela will not be releasing investigation reports of major public interest‚ such as her probe into alleged corruption by Eastern Cape municipalities relating to spending on former president Nelson Mandela's funeral‚ she will bring the public up to speed on their progress.

“None of those will be released but she will provide an update‚” her spokesperson Oupa Segalwe said.

He said that the reports due to be released were the cases of ordinary people.

Madonsela on Monday hinted that she will also address certain rumours on her alleged political interests when she tweeted:

That appeared to be a reference to a statement from “Palestine solidarity organisation BDS South Africa” in which it said it “is shocked that…Madonsela participated in a fundraising event on the 21st of September 2016 with the Israel United Appeal-United Communal Fund”.

The Sowetan reported on Tuesday morning that an inquiry relating to allegations that Madonsela was a spy for the US's Central Intelligence Agency was opened with police on September 18 by African National Congress (ANC) member Pedron Nndwa.

"Our lives are at risk now because she [Madonsela] has never proved these allegations false‚" he told the newspaper.

Allegations that Madonsela has been acting as a spy were first raised last year and were reiterated by the ANC Youth League following its national executive committee meeting at the weekend.
